Seasonal Trends Spring Summer 2010

08 March 2010

Richard says there’s a return to investment hair for Spring Summer 2010:
“Hair starts the new decade with a fresh change – from the power looks of the noughties to the sexy and confident tens, women have progressed from office chic to work-place goddess. The key theme is Sexy, Messy, Luxury hair; this look is can-do glamour. Inspired by a mix of sophisticated cuts and a fresh combination of messier, luxurious hair, this hair’s retro roots lie in iconic 50’s and 60’s looks (think the film Nine) combining the edginess of the new decade with the classic Riviera throwback to La Dolce Vita. The decade of the Tigress Teens is here! ’

Short – Dishevelled Chic
As worn by: Michelle Williams, Carey Mulligan, Kimberley Wyatt (Pussycat Dolls)
Short hair is worn with layers of 3 to 4”, with diffused and textured ends. Hair is layered around the hairline but not cropped, worn in front or behind the ears and wispy at the nape, the look is all about versatility. Dried naturally or smooth, curled or pushed back, styling is the key. The look is sassy, cute, and can be glammed up with accessories (think statement flowers, bands and hair brooches).

Get the look: Worn messy and texturised, style with TecniArt Clay. Warm through palms and rub in with chopping movements and separate to style. Re-rub and re-style throughout the day.

Mid-length – Sassy Glamour
As worn by: Davina McCall, Madonna (ad D&G), Audrey Tatou
Mid-length hair and bobs have long layers and are softly shaped around the face. This hot 2010 look must swing and move free of the shoulders with movement through the layers. Fringes are worn long and over the eyes or parted to the side, giving versatility to wear smooth and straight for daytime or curly and styled for evening. Movement is key, and the look is casual or dressed up for glamour.
Richard says: Most people have some natural movement in their hair as a starting point for styling – using what you have is the foundation for this look!

Long hair – Tousled Sophistication
As worn by: Mischa Barton, Georgina Jagger,
Pixie Lott, Holly Willoughby Long hair is worn
tapered, with long layers and weight at the
ends, but framing the face. In great condition,
hair is free-moving with an organic flow. Softly
curled or waved, hair is very sexy, but controlled messiness for day-time. With volume and movement at the roots, these looks are flexible and multi-tasking, designed to de-construct for evening…

Hair-up – Full-On Goddess
As worn by: Rachel McAdams (Sherlock Holmes), Ekaterina Ivanova
Slightly curled and messed up, pulled back and secured with hair accessories, flowers are the big trend this season – think statement in psychedelic prints. Create a shape by randomly scrunching, spritzing, spraying, back-combing (leave showing) and pin haphazardly to create a savage, almost aggressive evening statement on any hair length.
Must Have: Pins, grips, shine spray for texture, tail comb for backcombing, clips, clasps and the season’s key ingredient – strong hold Hairspray.

Men – De-constructed College Quiffs
As worn by: Aaron Johnson, Robert Downey Jr, George Lamb
Men’s hair sees a complete turnaround from ultra-groomed to grown-out quiffs and un-done messiness. Worn longer at the nape and layered all over, the look long, wind-swept and wavy. Collar length , and naturally textured, hair is light and not weighed down with product, but with volume and movement.

Colour

Richard says, “Contrasting, flattering tones are key for colour in 2010. Beautifully applied, colour placement is irregular to create a more faded out, separated colour look. Texture, New-wave looking colour is a turnaround from the perfect finish Noughties. Hair is professionally coloured but with a self-coloured looking result, using global application techniques to create varied colours and complementary tone on tone looks”

Teased Platinums Blondes
Blonde is the key look for Summer 2010 – blondes are cooler and ashey looking, mixed with contrasting undercoats (think Debbie Harry’s inspired original Blondie look). Eighties techniques such as back-combing the roots and colouring ends only (Tipping) make blondes impactful and feisty. Blondes are in-your-face and Kings Road trashy – not chavtastic!
As worn by: Bridgette Bardot, Marianne Faithfull

Coppery Reds
Bold cresendos of blazing coppers are key for 2010. Colour is graduated into a build-up of intensity and tones are full on. Colour differences are visible and deliberate to create a subtle but strong stream of colour, irregularly placed around the cut to compliment the style and give an illusion of texture and movement.
As worn by: Florence & the Machine, Lindsay Lohan

Blazing Brunettes
Ultra-Deep bronze browns with irregular flashes of colour to create more of a shimmer than a separation or global, block solid shine, brunettes are as popular as ever for Spring Summer. Darkest, deep cool brown tones with flashes of metallic undercoat give a glittery pigment to reflect light.
As worn by: Davina McCall, Megan Fox, Kate Beckinsale

Gritty Beach Hair
Messed-up, de-constructed beach hair will be a key trend for Spring Summer, and not just on the beach. Faded ends, with surfer chic looks with natural, sun-influenced colour changes from roots to tips is a key trend across all colour-ways.
As worn by: Ekaterina Ivanova
